What type of therapy is right for me?

Dr Sarah Lloyd, like many other Clinical Psychologists, is an integrative therapist which means she uses specialist expertise to integrate multiple therapy approaches to tailor therapy to each individual client.

Some people come to therapy wanting to work within a particular model (e.g. CBT, EMDR) its possible to work in this way too.

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

Dr Sarah Lloyd offers a free 15 minute brief consultation prior to booking in a first session, this provides you with an opportunity to ask any questions and to talk through your presenting complaint and how therapy may help you.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing therapy intends to change the way trauma is stored in the brain to reduce and eliminate problematic symptoms. Unlike other therapy models that focus on directly altering the emotions, thoughts and responses resulting from trauma, EMDR focuses on the memory.

EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the client to briefly focus on trauma memories whilst simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulations (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in vividness and emotion associated with trauma memories. It has been extensively researched and has a strong evidence base.

How many sessions will I need?

The number and frequency of sessions depend on presenting difficulties, specified task of therapy and what the client is able to commit to (regarding time, finances and emotional investment). Dr Sarah Lloyd is experienced working with people in open ended contracts as well as therapies specified in length (e.g. 10 sessions).
